In response to the delay, King mentioned that he had reached out to the police and crime commissioner to discuss these concerns with the chief constable directly. He acknowledged the importance of notifying the relevant parties but urged anyone who might have information regarding the case to come forward and assist the police.
A representative from Leicestershire Police responded by stating, "The force recognizes that this incident has generated significant worry among those living nearby and the broader community. After receiving the initial report, emergency services were promptly dispatched, and measures were implemented to secure the scene to collect evidence and initiate the investigation."
They continued, "We communicated road closures through our social media channels. Meanwhile, we were also working on locating the next of kin of the deceased and ensuring they were informed properly, which aligns with our commitment to a victim-first approach in such serious situations. Once all essential steps were taken, we shared information about the incident on our website and social media platforms."
On Thursday, the family of the victim, a second-year cyber-security student named Oladipo, released a heartfelt statement describing him as "a good boy who loved his family." They expressed their gratitude towards those who tried to help him, as well as the ambulance and hospital staff who worked tirelessly to save his life.
Furthermore, they conveyed their appreciation to the police for their ongoing efforts in the investigation, emphasizing their hope that justice will be served. "We are struggling to comprehend why anyone would commit such an act," they added poignantly.
